Olivier wants Warriors to aim higher

Worcester centre Wynand Olivier has urged his teammates not to rest on their laurels after securing their Premiership status for next season.

Worcester beat Bath 25-19 two Saturdays ago to ensure their Premiership survival and this weekend they travel to Kingston Park to face the Newcastle Falcons.

Olivier believes it is a case of building for next season and that a win over the Falcons will go a long way in providing the belief that they can be more competitive in the next campaign.

“We want to finish the season strong with two wins, so hopefully we can get that elusive away win (against Newcastle Falcons),” the 33-year-old told the Worcester Observer.

“There’s a great mood around camp now and to be honest we weren’t thinking about the game last Sunday (Bristol’s loss to Wasps), as we were just focusing on our own game.

"Bath was a great challenge, so beating them was brilliant.

“It’s a nice feeling to be safe and staying in the Premiership, but we now have to move upwards as a club and to end the season with two wins would help us to build on that goal.

“We have two winnable games in front of us. Newcastle have had a decent season and it’s always tough playing at Kingston Park. You never know what to expect weather wise and they’re another club on the up.

“If we can get that away win it will give us a lot of confidence ahead of next season, so we’re looking forward the challenge.”

Meanwhile, the former Springbok has indicated his desire to continue playing for the Warriors next season and wants a decision on his future to be made sooner rather than later.

“There’s a couple of conversations going on regarding my future with the club, so hopefully a decision will be made before the season ends. I’d love to be involved for another season,” he added.
