Wellington went down to their second loss of the ITM Cup season on Saturday as they were hammered 35-5 by Northland in Whangarei.

Last year's finalists Wellington were handed their second loss of the ITM Cup season on Saturday as they went down 35-5 to Northland in Whangarei.

The Lions, who lost their opening game of the season 37-25 at home to Waikato, were beaten by the Championship outfit in a dismal result.

Down 15-0 at the break, they did manage a try through Jason Woodward in the second-half but still conceded 20 more points at Toll Stadium.

This was the first Northland win over Wellington since 2000 as a brace apiece from Jone Macilai and Dan Pryor as well as one from Warren Dunn felled the Lions. Dan Hawkins kicked ten points.

Wellington, who boasted a front-row of Eric Sione, Motu Matu'u, Reggie Goodes, must now look to get their ailing 2014 season off the ropes at home to Manawatu Turbos next Friday.
