Northampton target Blues’ Wilson – report

Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson is, according to a report, being targeted by in-form Premiership side Northampton Saints.

Wilson signed a new deal with Cardiff Blues in 2016 and has around two seasons left on his contract at the Arms Park.

According to the Rugby Paper, the English giants have targeted him and remain undecided on whether or not to reshuffle their coaching staff at Franklin’s Gardens.

Northampton may see Wilson as their next forwards coach, a role he filled so successfully at the Scarlets between 2012 and 2014, and before that at the Dragons.

Wilson made the switch from Bristol to Cardiff Blues after Bristol missed out on promotion to the Premiership in 2015.

Financial constraints and other issues have not made his entire time at Arms Park overly successful. However, he is well respected in European rugby.

Should Northampton manage to bring Wilson away from the Blues, current Northampton forwards coach and former England World Cup winner Dorian West’s position would be questioned.

The 49-year-old may wish to work with old Leicester team-mate Dean Richards at Newcastle Falcons.

Cardiff Blues are at the foot of PRO14 Conference A, while Northampton are third in the Premiership.
