Northampton Saints forward Samu Manoa has been linked with a move to French and European champions Toulon for next season.
The 29-year-old USA star could be a key replacement for Mourad Boudjellal’s club given the rising ages of their back-row.
Reports in France, led by Varmatin, suggest that with Chris Masoe and Gerhard Vosloo’s futures both being uncertain Manoa could well be recruited.
Plucked from relative obscurity playing for San Francisco Golden Gate RFC, Manoa has taken the Premiership by storm with his power and speed, standing at over two metres tall and weighing 122 kg.
Saints are unlikely to let Manoa go without a fight, but Toulon’s chequebook has proven difficult to match in the past.
Manoa, born in California, has won nine caps for the USA since making his Test debut in 2010. He has made 100 appearances for Northampton since joining in 2011 and was shortlisted for the Premiership’s 2013/2014 Player of the Year.
