Ma’a Nonu’s proposed move to Toulon appears to have fallen through with Saracens believed to be in the hunt for his signature.

Ma’a Nonu’s proposed move to Toulon appears to have fallen through with Saracens believed to be in the hunt for his signature.

The All Black centre was believed to be one of the ‘Quatre Fantastiques‘ that Mourad Boudjellal was chasing for his post-World Cup spending spree.

However after meetings last week it seems Nonu is going to turn the European champions down according to Rugbyrama, with differences over a potential salary seemingly a major stumbling block.

That leaves Saracens as the main challengers for his signature in Europe, but they are apparently battling it out with two unnamed Japanese clubs who are said to be leading the race for his signature.

Nonu has of course already spent time playing in Japan, having played for the Ricoh Black Rams after the last World Cup. It is not yet clear whether the Black Rams are one of the sides interesting in signing the 32-year-old.

The centre is currently out injured and was not part of the 34-man New Zealand squad that was named today for their European tour.
