Newcastle Falcons are working to extend the contract of director of rugby Dean Richards beyond the end of this season.
Falcons managing director Mick Hogan is eager to get the process started, with Newcastle showing subtle improvements this season.
The Falcons are tenth in the Premiership after 12 games, with only three wins so far, but posted an 18 percent improvement in home attendances last week.
“Dean’s contract is up [at the end of the season] and we’re looking to extend it,” Hogan told The Rugby Paper.
“He’s been great for Falcons. He’s one of, if not the most successful coaches in Premiership history and he understands the balance between planning for three to five years down the line and having a game the coming Saturday that we need to win.
“He understands the budget he’s got to work with and you’ll never hear a word of complaint from him about wanting more money.
“He’s held in very high regard up here. He’s moved his family up and they enjoy the area.”
