Sharks director of rugby Gary Gold has named Odwa Ndungane to start at full-back for Saturday's clash with the Lions in Johannesburg.
The former Springbok will wear the number 15 jersey after Willie le Roux was ruled out through injury.
Ndungane brings a calm temperament and more than a decade of Super Rugby experience to the Sharks’ backline which will be crucial against a team like the Lions who will look to exploit any gaps they can find.
The team will be led by Springbok prop Tendai Mtawarira and also features Garth April at fly-half with Pat Lambie still under observation following his injury in the Boks' first Test against Ireland in Cape Town earlier this month.
Lambie has not passed the concussion graduated return to play protocol and will be re-tested next week while Joe Pietersen has a shoulder fracture with an approximate lay-off of six weeks.
