Noa Nakaitaci is in line to make his France debut on Sunday against Italy after five players were released back to their clubs.
Marc Andreu, who had replaced Sofiane Guitoune yesterday, was one of the five, leaving Nakaitaci and Yoann Huget as the only two wingers in the squad.
As a result, the Fijian-born Clermont winger is set to make his Test bow, having previously represented les Bleus in a tour game against the Blues in 2013.
Elsewhere Rémi Talès has also been released, with Jules Plisson set to make his international return after his match-winning drop goal against Bordeaux-Bègles last weekend.
The other players released are Jocelino Suta, Wenceslas Lauret and Yannick Nyanga.
As a result, Alexandre Flanquart should feature against the Azzurri.
Philippe Saint-André will announce his team tomorrow morning, with two more players to be left out of the matchday squad, almost certainly a tighthead prop and a full-back.
