‘My best is coming’ – Tuala

Northampton Saints full-back Ahsee Tuala said that the best of him is yet to come and that a tough pre-season with the club has helped with his improvements so far.

Getting in his first full pre-season at the club was a huge help to the utility-back coming into a tough start to the Premiership campaign.

"I had a good pre-season with the boys this year," Tuala says in this week's Northampton Saints podcast. "I got myself in good nick and ready to work. I’ve never really had a full preseason before, this was my first one, I really felt the benefits after the preseason and you can really see it in training.

"Both my figures and in myself, I feel better. The figures show it and when I’m running around I've noticed I’m getting around the park a lot more and just feeling better about myself."

Tuala has played on both the wing and at full-back this season, and while he is happy to be on the field in any position he acknowledged a desire for the wider spaces and vision offered in the 15 shirt.

"I don’t mind where I start as long as I’m on the field but I’ve always preferred full-back," he adds.

"There’s a lot of time and space at the back and you get to talk to the boys in front of you, tell them what you see and what to do.

"We always do our extras and work as a group. All the outside backs get together and do the skills and everything else. It’s good to get a good gel with the rest of the back three for on the pitch."

And on being asked if the Saints’ fans had seen the best of him, the Samoan back said: "Not yet, not yet, but it’s coming for sure."
