Gloucester and England number eight Ben Morgan has been ruled out of the Six Nations Championship after undergoing surgery on a lower leg injury.

The Cherry and Whites issued the injury update on both Morgan and prop Nick Wood following the Premiership win against Saracens on Friday.

“Morgan has suffered a fracture to his lower left leg and had surgery performed on Saturday morning. He will commence an appropriate rehabilitation programme for this type of injury over the coming weeks,” it read.

“Wood was taken to hospital after the game after suffering an injury to his neck. He has had scans which indicate that he has suffered no serious bone or joint injury and has returned home on Saturday. He will undergo further assessment next week.”
