Monye backs Solomona for England

Former England wing Ugo Monye has backed Sale finisher Denny Solomona to make the step up to international rugby when he becomes eligible.

The 23-year-old, who scored a first-half hat-trick against Wasps on Sunday, has shone since he joined from rugby league outfit Castleford.

Monye sees plenty of potential in New Zealand-born wide man Solomona and that could mean Test honours with England in the near future.

“He is scoring better than anyone in recent times. He is a revelation,” the former Lion told BBC Radio 5 live in an interview on Tuesday.

“Is he good enough for England, based on what I’ve seen? Most definitely.

“The beauty of English rugby at the moment means we’ve got so many quality players and out of nowhere in the few months we’ve unearthed another potential international. It’s a fantastic position for Eddie Jones to be in.”

Solomona was superb for Castleford last year as he scored over 40 tries, which is another reason why Monye predicts a big future for him.

“He is a natural-born finisher, his try against Northampton was the best finish you will see from any winger this season,” he concluded.
