Montpellier win at Clermont

Montpellier moved up to third on the Top 14 table after they recorded an impressive 28-19 bonus-point win at Clermont on Sunday.

Clermont were playing catch-up on league leaders La Rochelle after their win at Racing 92 on Saturday but leave this game with no points.

First-half tries from left wing Joe Tomane, right wing Timoci Nagusa and hooker Bismarck du Plessis saw Montpellier go in 17-6 in front.

But a try from wing David Strettle gave Clermont hope on the 54th minute, with Morgan Parra’s conversion making it a one-point contest.

Full-back Benjamin Fall calmed Montpellier nerves with a try though and despite a Parra penalty, Frans Steyn’s drop-goal sealed the win.
