Rene Ranger will not be allowed out of his Montpellier contract before next year’s World Cup according to club president Mohed Altrad.

Reports in New Zealand this week indicated that the former All Black was angling for a return home before 2015, as part of an attempt to work his way back in Steve Hansen’s plans.

However Altrad has made it clear that he has no intention of letting his star winger go, with Ranger currently in the second season of a three-year deal.

It’s not the first time Altrad has had to be firm with Ranger, who considered trying to get out of his contract with the French club when he initially signed after earning an All Black recall.

On that occasion Altrad refused to budge, and it appears the same will happen this time around for Ranger.

“He has a three-year contract with us,” Altrad told L’Equipe.

“So it’s out of the question that he would leave because he’s an important part of the sporting project. Before joining Montpellier he took nearly two years to decide.

“So Rene thought long and hard about the consequences of leaving New Zealand. He’s in Montpellier, and he won’t be leaving.”
