Toulon centre Maxime Mermoz has been drafted into the France’s Six Nations squad, following the knee injury sustained by Alexandre Dumoulin at the weekend.

Mermoz will operate as cover for Dumoulin in the squad after the Racing 92 centre underwent a scan on Tuesday, where it was established that the injury was not as severe as initially thought.

However, it was also agreed that there would need an extensive period of rest and treatment.

“Medical tests revealed nothing serious but a period of rest is necessary. Alexandre rejoins his club to continue his treatment,” read the statement released by French rugby this week.

France head coach Guy Novès will name his final squad next week, for their opening match against Italy on February 6.
