Richie McCaw is likely to be offered a knighthood after the World Cup, having previously turned down the opportunity.
The All Black skipper turned down a knighthood in 2011 after leading New Zealand to World Cup glory, saying he would not be interested while he was still playing.
However with McCaw likely to hang up his boots after the World Cup, New Zealand prime minister John Key revealed that a second offer is on the cards.
"Whether he would take one, I don't now. The offer was there before and I can't imagine anything has changed," Key told TV3.
