All Blacks and Crusaders openside flanker Richie McCaw would like to see the Highlanders pip the Hurricanes to win this season's Super Rugby title.

The veteran back-row, who was schooled at Otago Boys' High School, will be cheering for his home town franchise in Saturday's big clash in Wellington.

However, his head over heart gave a different prediction for the game.

"I would love to see the Highlanders win but I'd probably have to go with the Hurricanes but it if the Highlanders play like they did last week, I'm sitting on the fence, you never know," he told ONE News ahead of the Westpac Stadium clash.

He added to Yahoo! New Zealand: "I was really impressed the way they played, the big thing will be if they can repeat that. But if they do it's going to be a hell of a game."

"If I was a betting man I'd probably go with the Hurricanes, but it's going to be close I think."
