Gloucester wing Jonny May could be ruled out of England’s Six Nations campaign due to a knee injury.
May sustained the injury during Gloucester’s 39-39 draw with Harlequins in their Premiership match at Twickenhsam last Sunday.
Gloucester’s director of rugby David Humphreys said that May would need to undergo surgery and more would be known on his recovery plan following a scan next week.
“Jonny has suffered a pretty significant knee injury that requires surgery,” he told the Gloucester Citizen.
“He’s seeing a specialist on Tuesday and based on the outcome of that we will have a much clearer picture of what needs to be done.
“Most importantly, it is a huge blow for Jonny to suffer an injury like that at this stage of the season. But knowing him and his dedication, he will leave no stone unturned in his recovery.”
