New Bath head coach Tabai Matson has revealed he is keeping an open mind on where Anthony Watson will play in the upcoming Premiership season.
The 22-year-old England international, who plays wing for his country and has largely been a full-back at his club, has impressed Matson.
And the former Crusaders assistant coach admitted that it is important that they best utilise Watson’s talents instead of pigeon holing him.
“Anthony can play either position,” he told the Chronicle.
“One of the things as a coach you need to do is ensure that the players are fulfilled as well.
“He’ll probably end up doing both and from what I’ve seen he’s really exciting in both positions.”
Matson added: “In the modern game a lot of the best full-backs play wing and a lot of the best wingers play full-back.
“It’s a very open game. They’ve got to be able to kick. They’ve got to be able to make good decisions.
“They’ve all got to be good under the high ball and they’ve got to be athletic. He definitely ticks those boxes.”
