Matfield suffers injury setback?

Although Bulls lock Victor Matfield will be rested for Saturday's clash with the Lions in Johannesburg, there are concerns he may be carrying an injury.

Matfield and Springbok centre Jan Serfontein will get a deserved break this weekend as per the agreement with SA Rugby, but the veteran second-row could be out for much longer after it was reported in the South African media that he sustained a knee injury in the Bulls' victory over the Crusaders at the weekend.

There are concerns that his knee injury could keep him on the sidelines for up to a month but although Bulls team doctor Org Strauss confirmed to Supersport that Matfield is injured, he said no decision was made on his fitness yet.

“He has a stiff knee, nothing too serious but we will make a decision later on in the week,” said Strauss.

Matfield is a key member of the Bulls squad and the Springboks' World Cup campaign.
