Springbok great Victor Matfield has 'fitted in really well' at Northampton and made a good impression at the Premiership club.
That was the word from Northampton forwards coach Dorian West after the 38-year-old lock made his debut as a second-half replacement in their 15-3 victory over Gloucester at Franklin's Gardens on Friday.
West is delighted that Matfield has completed his World Cup and Barbarians commitments and is now available for selection at Northampton.
“It (the English weather) is always a bit nasty but he’s been here for the past 10 weeks or so, so he’s seen a bit of it,” he told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.
“He’s fitted in really well, he’s been a good addition to the squad and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
When it was jokingly put to West that Matfield has the potential to be a good player for Saints, West replied: “I’ve got a few bits and bobs I need him to sort out, but I’m sure he’ll be okay.”
