Ospreys centre Josh Matavesi can be considered for PRO12 action this weekend following the outcome of his judicial hearing on Wednesday.
The Fijian international was cited by an independent Citing Commissioner for an alleged dangerous "lifting” tackle, contrary to Law 10.4 (j), in the Ospreys' PRO12 match with the Scarlets on Boxing Day.
The Disciplinary Committee, which heard the case in Dublin, was chaired by David Martin and also comprised George Spotswood and Philip Orr (all from Ireland).
They reviewed the video footage of the incident and the other evidence, and listened to explanations from the player and his representative.
The player acknowledged that he had committed foul play under Law 10.4 (j) but argued that it had not been sufficiently serious so as to have warranted a red card.
The Disciplinary Committee upheld the citing but agreed with the player that his actions had not warranted a red card.
Accordingly, the Disciplinary Committee imposed no sanction and Matavesi is therefore able to return to playing with immediate effect.
