New Blues recruit Benji Marshall will get his wish to be tried at fly-half when he plays his first game since switching codes.

Blues boss Sir John Kirwan revealed that Marshall – who joined the Blues from West Tigers in the NRL – is set to get game time when the Auckland-based franchise face fellow Super Rugby franchise the Hurricanes in their first pre-season match in Masterton on Saturday.

Many enthusiasts expected Marshall to be eased into the 15-man code at full-back rather than attempting to direct the attack from fly-half but Kirwan indicated he'd have a look at him at him in the No.10 jersey.

“We'll probably play Benji in all three pre-season games in some capacity,” Kirwan told AAP.

“He wants to play 10. Most 10s can cover a couple of positions but he'll be looking to start off at 10, see how he goes and then maybe give him a bit of time at full-back.”
