Marais to start for Cheetahs in final

Free State Cheetahs coach Franco Smith has made one change to his run-on side for Saturday’s Currie Cup final against the Blue Bulls in Bloemfontein.

The only alteration, from the side that beat the Golden Lions 55-17 in their semi-final last weekend, is in the forwards where Charles Marais replaces Ox Nche at loosehead prop.

Nche sustained a leg injury against the Lions and felt discomfort at training this week, but has been included on the replacements bench.

Flanker Paul Schoeman and centre Nico Lee have also been included in the starting line-up after both players recovered in time from ankle niggles.

Free State Cheetahs: 15 Clayton Blommetjies, 14 Sergeal Petersen, 13 Francois Venter (c), 12 Nico Lee, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Niel Marais, 9 Shaun Venter, 8 Niell Jordaan, 7 Uzair Cassiem, 6 Paul Schoeman, 5 Reniel Hugo, 4 Justin Basson, 3 Aranos Coetzee, 2 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 1 Charles Marais
Replacements: 16 Jacques du Toit, 17 Ox Nche, 18 Armandt Koster, 19 Henco Venter, 20 Tian Meyer, 21 Fred Zeilinga, 22 Rayno Benjamin, 23 Conrad van Vuuren
