The Bulls will be without Springbok hooker Bandise Maku for the start of the Super Rugby season, as he is the latest addition to the side's injury list.

Maku is expected to be out of action for four weeks, leaving him pressed for time to regain fitness ahead of the Bulls' first game against the Stormers at Newlands on February 27.

The hooker, who also missed out on the greater part of last year's Super Rugby season due to injury, sustained an Achilles heel strain during training and was therefore unable to form a part of the Bulls' pre-season touring squad that faced the Cheetahs in a warm-up match in Zimbabwe.

The injury sidelines Maku with Deon Stegmann and Handre Pollard, taking away from the relatively young side's experience.
