Fiji prop Campese Ma’afu has been handed a one-week suspension following his sending off against Wales in Cardiff.

Fiji prop Campese Ma’afu has been handed a one-week suspension following his sending off against Wales in Cardiff.

As a result he will miss this weekend’s Test between Fiji and the USA.

Ma’afu appeared on Tuesday before an independent Six Nations Disciplinary Committee in London, having received a red card for two yellow card offences in the match on Saturday.

The Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Jeremy Summers along with Dan White (both England), having viewed footage of the two incidents and listened to representations by and on behalf of the player, imposed a sanction of a one-week suspension.

The sanction imposed reflected the persistent nature of the offending rather than the substance of the offences themselves.

The Disciplinary Committee also had regard to the fact that the player had only recently served a further period of suspension.

Ma’afu is free to resume playing on Monday 24 November and has the right of appeal.
