Wales and Ospreys flanker Dan Lydiate will undergo surgery this weekend on the shoulder injury that ruled him out of Wales’ tour to New Zealand.

Anthony Carter, Senior Physiotherapist at the Ospreys, confirmed the news on Friday.

“Dan sustained a significant injury to the AC joint in his right shoulder, caused by an impact during the England game on Sunday,” he told the Ospreys’ official website.

“He’s been seen by Richard Evans, shoulder specialist at Spire Cardiff, who confirmed that the shoulder requires stabilisation via surgery, after which there is an expected rehab period of 12-14 weeks.”

Lydiate sustained the injury in the first half of Wales’s 27-13 loss to England at Twickenham on Sunday and is expected to be sidelined for up to 14 weeks.
