Lose and it’s all over – Lam

Connacht head coach Pat Lam believes it's now or never for his charges in their quest to finish in the top six, as they travel to Italy to tackle Zebre.

Saturday's match is a must-win for the Irish province as they currently sit in eighth spot in the PRO12, four points off Edinburgh and five off the Scarlets.

Despite still being able to sneak into the Champions Cup via a play-off if they finish in seventh, Lam knows anything other than a win will do this weekend.

"If we lose this week, it's all over, it's finished," the coach told The Irish Times.

"We have to put all our energy and focus on getting the win ourselves and see what happens elsewhere.

"What we have seen all season is that any team can beat the other, and where we are going, it's a big challenge.

"We saw what happened in the Scarlets' match against Zebre, so we are under no illusions. They have a lot to play for because they are chasing Treviso for Champions Cup rugby."

He added: "Instead of heads down, we are going after the ten points. We cannot control what happens to other teams, only how we perform."
