London Welsh boss Justin Burnell doesn’t think his team’s fate has been decided following defeat at home to Newcastle Falcons.

The match was seen as a must-win for the Exiles but they could only manage a single penalty from Olly Barkley’s boot.

Newcastle ran in three tries to pick up their second win in a week to leave Welsh rock bottom, nine points clear of the Falcons in 11th and facing a long season.

Burnell however refused to rule out his side’s chances of survival, even though things look bleak for the promoted side.

“I don’t think the league was decided today, there are still 16 games to go and we’ve got spirit,” said Burnell.

“Every loss is disappointing but this was a vast improvement from us after last week’s performance at the Harlequins.’

“We played for 80 minutes this week but we didn’t capitalise on our possession and it’s enormously frustrating how easily we switch off.

“It’s a massive learning curve for us and it is crucial for us to look at the processes to enable us to turn pressure into points.”
