The Golden Lions will be without Warren Whiteley, Jaco Kriel, Franco Mostert, Elton Jantjies and Lionel Mapoe for the Currie Cup play-offs.
All five have joined their respective Japanese clubs for the remainder of the Currie Cup season which comes as a blow as they face the Cheetahs in the semi-finals.
Further bad news is that Howard Mnisi (knee), Courtnall Skosan (groin), Dylan Smith (surgery on shoulder) and MB Lusaseni (finger) are all unavailable for selection this weekend due to injury.
Lourens Erasmus and Sylvian Mahuza started training last week and Andries Ferreira joined training on Monday.
There was, however, some good news for Johan Ackermann as Faf de Faf de Klerk, Julian Redelinghuys and Malcolm Marx have all been released by the Springboks and will be available for selection. Ruan Combrinck has not recovered sufficiently from a fractured fibula.

The Cheetahs will welcome back Oupa Mohoje who has been cleared to play in the Currie Cup. Juan de Jongh and Bongi Mbonambi are the only Western Province players cleared to play.
Springbok captain Adriaan Strauss has not been released to the Blue Bulls.
