Whiteley to start for Lions

The Lions have made a complete overhaul to their starting XV for their quarter-final with the Crusaders in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Head coach Johan Ackermann has made 15 changes to the dubbed 'B-team' that lost to the Jaguares last weekend.

Warren Whiteley has been cleared to play and will regain the captaincy as well this weekend.

The Springbok number eight will scrum down with Warwick Tecklenburg on the blindside and Jaco Kriel at openside flank.

Springbok lock Franco Mostert and Andries Ferreira regain the four and five jerseys from Lourens Erasmus and Martin Muller with Ackermann to play off the bench.

The Lions' mainstay front-row is back with Julian Redelinghuys, Malcolm Marx and Dylon Smith coming back into the fold.

The backline is back to its best with Andries Coetzee, Ruan Combrinck and Courtnall Skosan making up the back three.

The form centre combination of Lionel Mapoe and Rohan Janse Van Rensburg replace Stokkies Hanekom and Howard Mnisi, with the latter proving midfield cover from the bench.

The Springbok pairing of Elton Jantjies and Faf de Klerk retake the half-back shirts.
