Leicester snatch win at Kingsholm

Date published: January 30 2016

A late converted try from Logovi'i Mulipola just before full-time handed Leicester a dramatic 19-18 win over Gloucester.

Gloucester went 12-0 ahead in the first half with tries from James Hook and Ben Morgan, but were unable to stop Leicester once they kicked in to gear.

Freddie Burns missed a series of penalty attempts, but a late try from the Samoan prop helped sealed the four points.

With five minutes gone Burns had his first attempt from the tee, but failed to register the three points for Leicester.

It then took until the 21st minute mark for the game's first score, which came as James Hook found the try line after a sustained period of possession for Gloucester. Hook was able to add the extras to take his tally to seven points.

Ben Morgan then extended the lead immediately after as he touched down, but a failed conversion from Hook meant the margin stayed at 12 points.

As Leicester desperately looked for a way back in to the game before half-time, loosehead prop Marcos Ayerza found himself reaching for the try line, allowing Burns to convert.

Burns then had the chance to take his side within two points, but failed to slot the penalty before Hook was able to score three points for Gloucester on the verge of half-time.

The second half started slowly, and it wasn't until the 68th minute that Leicester found their way to the try line on the left wing, as Telusa Veainu dotted down. Burns failed to make the conversion from out wide, which meant the Tigers still trailed by three.

Hook answered immediately to extend Gloucester's lead to six points, converting his second penalty of the game with less than ten minutes remaining.

In the final moments of the contest though, replacement prop Mulipola reached for the line after sustained pressure from Leicester, allowing Tommy Bell to seal the victory by a single point with the conversion.
