Leicester Tigers have been dealt an injury blow on the eve of the new Premiership season after Freddie Burns was ruled out with a broken jaw.

The England international is expected to be out for around to six to eight weeks.

Burns suffered the injury in Leicester's final pre-season match against Sale Sharks last weekend.

The 25-year-old is going into his second season at Welford Road and is set to face stiff competition for the fly-half role from Owen Williams, who is named amongst the replacements for Sunday's trip to London Irish with Tommy Bell starting.
