Leicester Tigers are looking to bring in some back-row cover to cope with the long-term absence of Pumas flanker Pablo Matera.

The 21-year-old was forced off during Argentina's narrow 33-31 Rugby Championship loss to South Africa last week with dislocated shoulder, and has already been ruled out of the next two games in the competition.

However Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has expressed concerns that the youngster maybe out for even longer, and with Leicester having already lost Steve Mafi to the Western Force in pre-season, they are on the lookout for some cover.

“Pablo has a pretty bad injury by the sounds of it,” Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury.

“We are waiting to get a full assessment on that but I expect him to be out for a while.

“We have lost two back-rowers at the start of the season with Steve Mafi having unexpectedly left us, so we are having a look around as a result of that.

“It will be interesting to see what is out there in the marketplace to fill the void.”

Leicester will also be without winger Adam Thompstone for the first two months of the season after he required hand surgery on a tendon injury in his thumb.
