Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill has confirmed that Jean de Villiers will leave the club at the end of the season.
De Villiers linked up with Leicester after the Rugby World Cup but has only made two appearances for the side.
A knee injury has kept the former South Africa captain on the sidelines since he scored a try in Leicester's win over London Irish back on February 28.
Cockerill explained that with De Villiers' contract expiring and following the recruitment of Matt Toomua, the 109-cap Springbok would be moving on.
Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester: "He is out of contract, and with Matt Toomua coming, it was always just for this season.
"Whether Jean decides to carry on playing or not is a question for him."
