Legends of the game to remember Anthony Foley

Some top personalities from the world of rugby, including Paul O’Connell, Gordon D’Arcy, Mick Galwey and World Cup winners Mike Tindall and Mark Cueto will be at the RDS on Friday, March 17 as Irish heroes of yesteryear take on their English counterparts in a curtain-raiser to the Six Nations clash.

Following the passing of Anthony Foley in October, many of his former teammates and opponents have sought to pay tribute to one of the great servants of their game.

By donning their boots and reigniting old flames with former foes, the annual Legends fixture offers them the opportunity to do so as only they know how.

Commenting at the launch of the game at the RDS, former Irish hooker Shane Byrne, said: “We started this fixture back in 2009 and it has grown every year, raising over £500,000 for charity.

“However, this time around it will take on added significance – Anthony played in this game before and I know that he would have loved another crack at the English.

“They have had the upper hand of late, but we have plenty of Irishmen waiting to take the fight to them for one last time in a green jersey!”

Ireland Legends v England Legends will take place in the RDS on Friday, March 17, with kick-off at 18:00; tickets are currently available on Ticketmaster from €10. The game will be followed by a post-match function in the RDS surrounds.
