Clermont number eight Fritz Lee has extended his contract with the Top 14 giants for a further two seasons.

Lee, one of the best number eights in Europe over the last few seasons, will now remain at the Stade Marcel Michelin until 2019.

Originally a medical joker for Elvis Vermeulen when he arrived back in 2013, Lee has become a mainstay in the Clermont back row.

Clermont head coach Franck Azéma said: "This decision is great news for the team.

"I'm happy that a man like him will continue to be part of the club's project and can pass on his experience to the younger players."

Former Counties Manukau and Chiefs back-row Lee added: "I'm very happy that the coaches continues to have enough confidence in me to allow me to stay with the club for the next three seasons.

"I'm proud to be 'yellow and blue' and to wear the jersey for the next few years."
