Lawson knows Falcons’ flaws

Newcastle Falcons hooker Scott Lawson believes the results will come after losing the first three matches of the new season.

Dean Richards’ side currently sit 11th with one point to their name after the opening fixtures.

Committing to a new attacking style of play in this campaign is something the Falcons are sticking by, with Lawson acknowledging that hasn’t been the reason for their lack of results so far.

“We are fully committed to this more attacking style and so far it’s not been our style of play that has cost us the results,” said Lawson.

“We are scoring tries but are being let down by going behind early on and it’s in other areas where we need to tighten up on.

“So we will stick to our new style while not forgetting the basics but eventually the time for learning has to stop and the results have to come.”

Playing on a new 3G surface at Kingston Park has certainly helped Newcastle open up their attack, with Lawson given it his full backing.

“Our new surface has been a good step and speaking to guys from London Irish and Northampton after their games here they agree with that,” added Lawson.

“The game is played at a far quicker pace on this surface and makes for a more attractive spectacle. We now just need to use it to our home advantage but I think it’s been a great move.
