Western Province will be without openside Siya Kolisi until at least the Currie Cup play-offs after he suffered a knee injury.

The 23-year-old South African international came off after just seven minutes of WP's first loss of the campaign, away to the Golden Lions.

The team have since confirmed that he suffered grade one tears of his medial collateral ligaments in both knees, which means that he will be out of action for at least four weeks.

The Currie Cup semi-finals are scheduled for October 18th, leaving Kolisi five weeks to return to fitness, with the final a week later.

WP are still well-placed to make the final four despite the loss to the Lions, with a ten-point margin over the Blue Bulls in fifth.

On Saturday it was Sikhumbuzo Notshe who replaced Kolisi, and coach Allister Coetzee admits that the team will have to adapt their game plan depending on who replaces Kolisi.

“Sikhumbuzo Notshe has done enough [in terms of selection] but, like Nizaam Carr, he's more of a linking player,” he said.

“Notshe has the inside track when it comes to selection but it's a case of defining his role.

“Rohan Kitshoff will also definitely come into the mix [as an openside], so we have a few options when it comes to replacing Siya, who, of course, is a big loss.”
