Clermont have been struck by more bad news after their Top 14 loss with an injury to hooker John Ulugia.

Ulugia was forced off after 19 minutes during last week's 12-6 defeat to Stade Français in Paris after suffering a strain to the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

According to La Montagne the feeling is that Ulugia should be fit in time for the start of pre-season on July 15.

The Auckland-born former Brumbies and Waratahs hooker started ahead of France's Benjamin Kayser in the final as Clermont lost their second major chance of silverware in a matter of weeks after another defeat in the Champions Cup.

The club have made a number of impressive signings for the 2015/2016 season including Scott Spedding, Flip van der Merwe, David Strettle and Hosea Gear.
