The Eastern Province Kings' status in this year's Currie Cup competition is in jeopardy, according to reports in the South African media.
The Rapport newspaper reports that SA Rugby could ask the Leopards to take the Kings' place in South Africa's premier provincial tournament as the financially stricken Eastern Province Rugby Union is set to be liquidated this week.
This comes after a business plan, aimed at rescuing the beleaugered union, couldn't be initiated.
The Kings will therefore be unable to field a competitive side in the Currie Cup's Premier Division, which kicks off this weekend, as several of their leading players have left Port Elizabeth after Super Rugby.
There is also a possibilty that the Kings may not compete in the tournament's First Division.
