Kings lose their captain for rest of Currie Cup

The EP Kings have been dealt a big blow with news that their captain Schalk Ferreira will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Lock Cornell Hess has also been ruled out for the rest of the Currie Cup campaign. As the team's best lineout lock, his absence will leave a significant hole.

"The chances are very slim that Schalk will be able to play again this season," Kings coach Barend Pieterse told Netwerk24.

Ferreira suffered the injury during the first half of their match against Boland Cavaliers two weeks ago. The scrum-half from the Lions, Ricky Schroeder, took over the captaincy this past weekend against the Blue Bulls and together with Michael Willemse and Martin Ferreira they have been identified by Pieterse as the leadership core of the squad.

Justin Forwood has stepped forward as the first-choice loosehead in the absence of Ferreira but he is struggling with flu so the Kings wil be hoping he recovers in time to face Western Province in Port Elizabeth on Saturday
