The Southern Kings have announced the signings of Schalk van der Merwe, Wandile Mjekevu and Neil Maritz.

The Eastern Cape franchise have secured the signatures of prop Van der Merwe from Montpellier and Sharks utility-backs Mjekevu on loan and Maritz for the 2017 Super Rugby season.

Southern Kings head coach Deon Davids said he was excited about the new signings.

"Every team needs experience in the front-row and it is great to have a player with such pedigree join us in Port Elizabeth" Davids told News24.com.

"Wandile was on loan with us earlier this year and he made an immediate impact, so it’s great to have him back. Neil has come through the ranks at the Sharks and is a young, but very exciting player to have available. I’m looking forward to having them in the squad."

The new recruitments will join Chris Heiberg, Irné Herbst, Wandile Putuma, Garrick Mattheus, Yaw Penxe and Sintu Manjezi, who have all signed with the Kings for the 2017 season.
