Kings utility forward Daniel Adongo has traded in his rugby boots for a shot at glory in the NFL.

On Thursday the Indianapolis Colts announced that the Kenyan, who has also turned out for the Sharks, Bulls and Counties Manukau, would be joining them as an outside linebacker.

“We are excited as an organization with the acquisition of Daniel Adongo,” Colts general manager Ryan Grigson told the team's official website.

“He is not only an elite athlete and rising international rugby player, but he is an exceptional competitor and human being that has the right makeup for our sport. We all look forward to watching his growth and development in the ensuing weeks.”

Adongo follows in the footsteps of Saracens lock Hayden Smith, who joined the New York Jets in 2012.

Smith, who has represented the USA Eagles in 18 Tests, signed a three-year deal with the Jets and is playing as tight end.
