London Welsh have confirmed the signing of Wales Rugby League international wing Elliot Kear, who joins the club from Bradford Bulls.

The 25-year-old finisher arrives at Welsh from the Yorkshire side for whom he scored 17 tries in 55 Super League appearances in three seasons.

Cardiff born Kear appeared for the Exiles in a pre-season friendly at Henley Hawks while on trial, claiming one of Welsh’s ten tries in a 64-0 win.

“Elliot had some excellent performances for Bradford in the Super League last year and won numerous Man of the Match awards, most notably against Wigan,” said head coach Justin Burnell.

“He’s got a lot of pace and with our mounting injury list he’s a fantastic addition to our squad. He also comes from some good stock, coming out of that famous year group at Whitchurch High School in Cardiff along with Sam Warburton and Gareth Bale.”

Commenting on joining London Welsh, Kear said: “I’ve always wanted to play Rugby Union and to have signed for London Welsh and to play at the highest level is definitely something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Hopefully I can take my chance and be the best I can be.

“Everyone is extremely focused at London Welsh and everyone has the view that we can still stay up – it only takes a few results. That’s what we’re searching for now, a result, and hopefully we can get that on the weekend.

“I always followed Rugby Union up until I was 18 in Cardiff and it’s always been a view of mine to come back and really give it a go, and pick up from where I left off with school rugby.”
