Wales head coach Warren Gatland has confirmed that lock Alun Wyn Jones will be sidelined for six weeks following a foot injury.

The injury to the Ospreys captain has ruled him out of Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Italy.

Gatland affirms that Wales and Ospreys will monitor the 30-year-old second-rower’s progress.

“Talking to the medics they think he needs six weeks rest, that’s why we made the decision that we didn’t need him this week,” Gatland told BBC Sport.

“We have to make sure we manage him over the next few weeks and we work closely with the Ospreys.”

Jones’ injury is a greater loss to Ospreys – who are currently in 12th position in the PRO12 – and would want to have their skipper back on their training field to get their hopes of qualifying for the Champions Cup back on track.
