England head coach Eddie Jones lauded the resolve England played with in their win against Australia with a 39-28 victory in Brisbane.
"I think we showed real grit … We had a specific plan which we thought could beat Australia." Jones told Sky Sports.
"They caught us out with their pace at the start of the game and it took us some time to adjust but we did the simple things well.
"We've come here to win the series, next week is super important and we're focused on that already.
England captain Dylan Hartley was incredibly happy with the win but knows there is room for improvement.
"First and foremost the result is key. The way we started needs looking at. We will keep our feet on ground, it’s the first of three. To get the result is a good way to start," Hartley said.
"They had a lot of ball in the first 20, we were 10-0 down and struggling to get a foothold in the game. When we got down their end we got points.
"The boys showed great character to dig in and play for the full 80.
