Cardiff Blues director of rugby Mark Hammett has backed tighthead prop Adam Jones for a recall to the Welsh squad for the Six Nations Championship.
The 33-year-old, who has not been involved in a Test side since early June, has been in impressive form for the Blues in the Guinness PRO12.
Samson Lee is currently the man occupying Wales’ number three jersey but with Scarlets tighthead Rhodri Jones injured, Hammett thinks his veteran prop is good enough to be recalled by Warren Gatland this month.
“Absolutely,” he told Wales Online when asked if Jones is ready to return.
“Adam has been playing well all season, not just as a scrummager but his general fitness and work around the field.
“We know he’s not going to set the world on-fire [running around and ball carrying] but certainly some of the detail and micro-stuff I have been looking for he has been doing.”
