Itoje still chasing perfection
England lock Maro Itoje believes he can still improve as a player and feels there are aspects of his game which can be developed further.
The 21-year-old has been in sublime form in 2016, but despite winning the Premiership title and European Champions Cup with Saracens, as well as claiming a Grand Slam and series whitewash against Australia, with England, he is not completely satisfied with his game.
“I don’t know many players who peak at 21,” Itoje told the BBC.
“I want to get stronger, faster, and fitter. I want to try and be as complete a player as possible.”
Apart from his success with club and country, Itoje was on the losing side just once so far this year – for Sarries against Harlequins early in 2016 – and he has not lost a match he has started in since May 2015.
“Last season was pretty special and I was fortunate enough to do it with some pretty good people as well, which made it even more enjoyable,” he added.
“Last year is one that will go in the memory bank, but now that it’s over it’s quite interesting how quickly your mind shifts towards the next goals you want to achieve.
“Now it’s done, we are looking forward.”
