Tommaso Allan and Robert Barbieri have been released by Italy ahead of Saturday’s clash with South Africa in Padua.

The Perpignan fly-half will return to his club for their Pro D2 clash with leaders Pau, while Barbieri will be available for Leicester’s Premiership fixture with London Welsh.

Allan has not featured at all for the Azzurri during the November Tests, with Kelly Haimona impressing in his first international appearances, while Barbieri came off the bench against Samoa before missing out last week.

Italy come into the game off the back of a heartbreaking loss to Argentina, and will seeking a first-ever win over the Springboks.
