Italy boss Jacques Brunel has turned to Zebre flanker Samuela Vunisa and the uncapped Marchiol Mogliano centre Tommaso Boni ahead of the second Six Nations match against England.
The duo join the Azzurri squad after knee injuries forced Alessandro Zanni and Michele Campagnaro out of next Saturday’s Test at Twickenham.
Zanni, who has 87 caps, and Campagnaro, who has made 13 appearances, were injured in Saturday’s 26-3 defeat to Ireland.
Further tests will be carried out Monday morning, with Campagnaro likely to miss the rest of the tournament.
Vunisa has made just one appearance for Italy, starting in the loss to South Africa in November.
The 22-year-old Boni, who has played for Italy’s junior teams, has never featured in the senior squad.
